World's Most Expensive Motor Vehicle Built by a Different Model) Mercedes-Benz Maybach Exelero - $8 million (£6.3m)

This Batman-esque one-off sports car was built by the Italian car company Stola, in collaboration with DaimlerChrysler. It was made to showcase the Carat Exelero tire range from Goodyear, commissioned by its Fulda subsidiary.

 And while all these big names are interesting and complicated, four students completed the final design from the Pforzheim University of Science in the Black Forest, Germany. The only requirement is that the car must reach 217 mph in order to test the tires completely.
 Although it was revealed at the Tempodrom in Berlin in 2005, the Exelero was one of the most expensive and beautiful cars in the world.

 It has a twin turbo V12 engine, installed at 60º, which produces 700 PS (690 hp; 515 kW). The interior matches the aesthetic, with dark and red leather, neoprene, glossy black carbon fiber, and aluminum accents.

 Maybach is now part of the Mercedes-Benz division of Daimler AG, but the marque has a rich history. Maybach produced almost all the engines used in German tanks during World War II, including Panzer I, II, III, IV and V, Tiger I and II.
